I might have somewhat over-indulged last night.

And for anyone who hasn't seen Doctor Who yet, the BBC News website is full of spoilers, including the headline of the story. The bastards. I have a venetian blind to install today, but I'm having trouble getting past how appropriate 'horizontal' seems to my physical disposition.

Games, movies, wine, cocktails?

I've been somewhat out of the loop for a bit, so was thinking of inviting people over for gaming/movies/whatever else...

I was thinking Saturday 28th June?

Does that work for peeps or not?

Back!

Couldn't stay for the last band to finish cuz I have work in the morning. Tom Tom said it would be 3 hours47 minutes to get home from Dores, I seem to have managed it 2 hours 15.

I am completely fucking exhausted now, and will greatly enjoy sleeping in a BED!!!!!

and another

Hosting a music festival on the banks of loch ness also creates an awesome vista. The mainstage is downhill, with the loch playing out behind it to the horizon, bracketed by mountains. And the shitty weather never really turned up. Blueskytastic.

Geek moment

George Takei is finally able to get married.

I'm actually not that much of a Star Trek fan anyway - hell, I haven't seen even half the shows. But 21 years is a long time to wait to get married. Here's hoping the law survives.

Oh dear, drama...

So it seems that Erin/[info]tisme is poking her nose into my personal life and campaigning against me. Bizarre, as I haven't spoken more than a handful of words to her in the last few years.

Apparently in her latest rant about me today she called me a misogynistic cunt. This is actually one of the nicer things - most of her comments are unrepeatable.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to why she's interfering. I have nothing to do with her, and haven't for a very long time.

I'm also at a loss as to what to do about it. It's all good and well to just ignore people who behave that way, but this seems to be some sort of crusade. I also wonder how long she's been banging on about me to anyone who will listen. People worth knowing make up their own minds in life, but language this extreme is not simple to set aside or forget.

No easy answer.

But anyway, if anyone wants to know how awful I am, come and ask me.
Made mistakes: yup. Hurt people: yup. Fucked up the important things in life: yup. Proud of myself: no.

I'm human, probably more flawed than most.

On the train to Newark from New York. The sun is setting over the post-industrial wasteland of New Jersey as the appropriate Pink FLoyd track randomly fires up on the mp3 player. A good holiday is one where you've been through so much that even home feels fresh again.

Down the street from 1600 Pennsylvania Av.

Got in last night, just in time for the free cocktail hour. Not vats of ready-made crap, but two bar staff making up ay drink you want.

Room has a separate living room/office and kitchen area. Somewhat cooler than the flatscreen TV concealed within the bathroom mirror at Caesar's Palace.

But...
The room came with a complimentary copy of 'Be My Guest', the life story of Conrad Hilton. The book design is a carbon copy of an Ayn Rand novel. *fear*

CNN is running a piece on 'slumburbia'. Large expanses of ghost town made of expensive deserted property crash developments. There has to be a B-movie in that...

Update from the ferry.

(posted on phone, expect typos and spelling mistakes)

About halfway, heading south between Cape May and Lewes. I'll post when we hit dry land. Weather is wet but the sea is quite calm. I would have preferred more excitement, but I suspect Si is happy it's flat.

Some musings on current events while we bob along.

Burma/Myanmar is really heartbreaking. The military juanta just don't give a toss. If maintaining their perception of national security requires the sacrifice of tens of thousands of people, then that's a price they'll pay. And there's nothing anyone can do about it. It's a well armed military dictatorship, so public unrest can be crushed easily, as demonstrated by the budhist monk protests recently. What do you do when a soverign country allows it's own people to die? No answer...

Time Magazine has just published their latest edition. The front cover has the text 'And the winner is...' on top of a picture of Obama. Pretty much everyone outside her campaign is now agreed that she is dead in the water. So why is she fighting on? Even if she got re-votes in Florida and Michigan, she couldn't get close to him without winning both by something like 30 percent. I figure she's either fatally stubborn, spoiling because she lost, or making an underhand play for the VP position (my best guess). Basically, she's creating a mess that only she can then fix by being on the ticket. I doubt it'll work though - Obama would never submit to having both the Clintons in the White House. It would undermine and potentially upstage him at every turn.

Ho hum...

Played another small poker tournament today. My all-in queens hit kings. No regrets, it was a reasonable play.

Briefly tried three card poker and was unimpressed.

Had fifteen dollars left over, so figured I'd dump it on the roulette as it wasn't worth cashing in the chips. Bet my age and house number, as it seemed to work in Glasgow. Walked away with four hundred bucks. So that's me somewhat in profit for my trip here by playing a game I don't even like.

Oops

Well that's the Cape May - Lewes Point ferry booked for tomorrow. As an afterthought, I checked the weather. Thunderstorms, 25mph winds and a couple of inches of rain. We're outside the severe weather warning zone to the southwest, so it's not as fun as it could be.

My all-in aces hit a full house. Was fun though.

Oh, and I failed to win the New York lottery. Annoying as I could have done with 120 million bucks. ho hum.
